Microstructure, tribological performances, and wear mechanisms of laser-cladded TiC-reinforced NiMo coatings under grease-lubrication condition

Abstract NiMo-5%TiC, NiMo-15%TiC, and NiMo-25%TiC coatings were prepared on GCr15 steel by laser cladding (LC). The microstructure the phases of obtained analyzed using ultra-depth-of-field microscopy (UDFM) X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. A ball-on-disk wear test was used to analyze friction-wear performance substrate NiMo-TiC under grease-lubrication condition. results show that grain shape is dendritic. resistance improved addition TiC, depths worn tracks are 4.183 μm, 2.164 1.882 1.246 respectively, corresponding rates 72.25 μm 3 /s/N, 32.00 18.10 7.99 respectively; this shows coating has highest among three kinds coatings. mechanism abrasive wear, TiC plays a role in resisting during friction process.
